A walk through Business.Facebook so you can familiarize yourself with the basics of the platform.
Okay. We’re ready to move you to the actual Facebook platform.
Now you've probably spent most of your Facebook life on Facebook.com. Even if you have tried to run ads before, it's probably been from inside Facebook itself. But, allow us to introduce you to a whole new side of Facebook.
Welcome to Business.Facebook!
Now, this is where all top ad marketers do their business and it’s going to be your new home. Yup, it's a whole different website altogether and looks nothing like Facebook. Let's check it out. This is the outer page of business.facebook. This is where you sign up for what is called a business manager account.
A business manager account is like a control center that lets you control your facebook pages and your ad accounts. We will get to ad accounts in just a minute.
But for now, let's go ahead and sign up for a business manager account by clicking here. Now just follow the steps to create your account. You'll be asked to connect your own Facebook account here and later you will be asked to enter details about your business.
One thing to take note of is, it's possible that your client has already run ads in the past and has a business manager account. In that case, you just have to ask them to give you the necessary access.
Now, we’ve already created an ad account for Lancify Abroad, so let’s just skip the setup process. Once you’re in, this is what you’ll see. There are two sections here, one that says ad account performance and another that says pages.
Now an ad account is basically where you set-up and control all the ads for the business. If you don't see anything here, you either need to be able to access your client's ad account or create one for them.
To do that, click on this hamburger on the top left, navigate to business settings, click on accounts, ad accounts and then hit add.
Here you see three options, one to add an ad account, another to request access and a third to create a new account. Considering you are new to this platform, you will need to either request access or create a new account. Follow the steps on whichever one you need to do and you'll get access to the ad account. Super simple.
Now going back to that first page, let’s switch over from Lancify Abroad to the Lancify ad account for a second, so we can show you around. Now don't freak out with all the different stuff on this page. It might seem overwhelming but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple to navigate. Right now, the most important thing on this page are these 3 tabs - campaigns, ad sets and ads. A campaign is basically a larger bucket under which a bunch of ads are run to drive a single purpose.
For example, if you want to get leads for Lancify Abroad - That's one campaign. However, if you wanted to drive traffic to a specific blog on Lancify Abroad, you would need to create another campaign. A campaign is usually driven by a SINGLE purpose.
Next comes ad sets. Ad sets are basically where you define who the campaign is going to target. You can have different ad sets targeting different types of people and test which one does better. Finally you come to ads itself. This is where you put in the images and the copy for the actual ads. Here you can test out what images and ad copy works best. Now, don't worry if this seems like a lot.
As we walk you through actually setting up the ads, you will get a much better understanding of how to operate this platform. Take this in one step at a time and you will be fine.
In the next episode, we'll be walking you through the world of targeting a.k.a audiences.
